Special Mid-term election episode from Dallas, TX with LGBT Candidates Lorie Burch & Julie Johnson

Join Kelli & Anne for their 26th NEW episode!

This was a remote podcast Kelli & Anne taped while Anne was touring with her show in Dallas, TX. They wanted to talk about the importance of the Mid-term elections this year and highlight 2 female LGBT candidates that they believe in. They are joined by their good friend Cathi Scalise, a former Board of Directors member of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), who has worked both locally and nationally with both of our guests.

They begin by talking with Julie Johnson who is running for the Texas House, District 115 in the Dallas Fort Worth area. Julie talks about her background as an attorney, being a wife and mother and how she was inspired to run by Hillary's loss and the Women's March. She then helps us understand why these Mid-term elections are so vital to send a message to the current administration. Julie explains the best ways to get involved... give money to candidates, get involved with your State Legislative races and do block walking for candidates you believe in. Finally she talks about her platform and her specific race for the Texas House. Next they welcome Lorie Burch who is currently running for the United States House of Representatives, 3rd Congressional District of Texas.  Lorie talks about her background as an attorney and being the first OPENLY gay National President of The American Businesswomen's Association and how that led her to run for Congress. She speaks very passionately about wanting to lead a life of consequence and to make a difference in this world. She also talks about her wife and daughters and how they inspire her. Lorie takes no PAC money and is raising all campaign money on her own, which is a VERY big deal. (BTW, she DID win the run-off in her Primary that we talk about in the episode! YAY!!)
